12/06/2015

On Jun 12th, 2015 The European Union funded twinning project "Against Homophobia and Transphobia in Kosovo" organized a world-cafe event intended to facilitate a relaxed discussion, and link ideas among the participants on the role of media in shaping public opinion about LGBT issues in Kosovo.

Participants came from relevant parts of Kosovo society: media, non-governmental organizations, LGBT community, Embassies and international organizations. Representatives from different media where present, including representatives from the Kosovo Association of Journalists, Klan Kosova, RTV 21, BIRN, Inderkonline, Radio UrbanFM, freelance journalists and bloggers. Meanwhile local expertise and support was given by all three local NGOs (QESh, CEL, CSGD) who are dealing exclusively with LGBT issues in Kosovo.

Why does is seem so difficult to talk about same sex love in Kosovo? How can the fight for equality make it to the news? And other important questions came up in the three rounds of discussions that took place in this event. The relaxed format allowed for different perspectives to be shared aiming to foster better undersanding among these relevant parts of society.
